RICHMOND HILL, Ga. — A longtime military veteran who currently lives in Richmond Hill has received a prestigious national award for his continuing work in the community.
“I’m really proud of the things that I did while in the Army,” said retired Command Sgt. Maj. Lindsey Streeter. “But I’m really humbled by the fact that I get a chance to continue to serve and give back to my community.”
And it’s that continuing service to his community that has gained the veteran a prestigious honor.
Streeter is the Military Times Foundation’s 2023 Veteran of the Year.
“It was extremely humbling when I got the call,” said Streeter. “To think that there are 16 and a half million veterans across the country and my work in the community and outside of this particular community had bubbled to the surface, and I was named Veteran of the Year.”
Streeter, who is the owner and founder of the Savannah Hurricanes basketball team, believes the charitable work that the team does in the community is a big reason why he got this honor.
“We connect with the community,” said Streeter. “We want to be a part of the very fiber of Savannah. Anything that’s plaguing Savannah, in particular our youth, want to be right there.”
